  • Overview

Rethinking how millions of local news users discover and watch video.

A rental marketplace that helps millions of people find their next apartment.

A design system built to scale across 23 markets, two networks, and two languages.

NBC Local needed a video experience that could keep users watching. I led the redesign across every video touchpoint in the app, from the hub to in-article playback to live TV.

Opportunity

The existing video experience was broken. Users had to click in and out of videos to watch the next one, creating friction that killed engagement. There was no continuous viewing flow and no way to surface related content.

Needs

Users needed a seamless way to keep watching without interruption. The experience also had to work across multiple touchpoints and adapt to different audience behaviors between English and Spanish-speaking users.

Contraints

Ad placement was a core requirement across the video experience, both within videos and throughout the UI. We also had to account for behavioral differences — English-speaking users tend to watch video with sound off while Spanish-speaking users prefer video that starts with audio.

  • Solution

A continuous video loop that keeps users watching.

A redesigned listing experience to help renters find what matters faster.

An atomic design system from the ground up.

Related content surfaces below each video, creating a continuous loop. A curated category view and latest tab mirror the news experience structure.
